Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Vincent Pancaldi and I was born in Martinique, a French island. Currently i'm a game programmer at Ubisoft a french game programming studio.

Since my childhood, I haven't been able to stop myself from disassembling and rebuilding the things around me. It is mostly thanks to this natural curiosity that my interest in mathematics and computer games grew. Mathematics gives a way of constructing a formal space where formal objects live, games give me a way to create, experiment and share experience, both of them feed my need of creativity.

The first time I saw a console game was on my brother's mattel intellivision. He had NHL Hockey, Space Armada and Sea Battle. Then I discovered the Amiga 500, and I was introduced to the demo scene by my brother who was a swapper at the time and a member of SpaceBalls(a demo scene group). Since then I have been impressed by technologies that try push hardware to its limits. The first demo I encountered was Spaceballs State Of The Art, after which this website is named. Later, I managed to get my own Amiga and try to program on my own using AmigaBasic without documentation nor help. I wrote my first game in college on a TI-92 calculator, and a Casio calculator.

My interest in games brought the concept of game design to my attention. To my mind, game design is another means of building formal worlds, however, these worlds are to be inhabited by player thought. This is why I've developed an interest in the use of artificial intelligence in games, as a way of creating convincing worlds that wisely adapt themselves to enhance the user experience.
